It seems like Father's Day is always sunny and mild. Today is no exception. It is fitting, most fathers would like a day outdoors, a day free from stress and the enormous responsibility that comes with being a father. So let them relax and do whatever they want.

I had a great Dad. He was usually quiet, but when he spoke, people listened. He was solid, always there when I needed him, and my sense of loss has not diminished because even in adulthood I looked up to him. He was the one I could depend on, no matter what. I was blessed to have him in my life as long as I did. Despite being quiet, he loved to sing and dance. He served bravely in WWII, and he told my brother his finest moment was when he brought home all of his men - safely. Though he was in his 20s, he was the captain of a small ship in the Pacific. He was a 90-day wonder, which described men they trained for leadership positions in 90 days. They made the right decision choosing my father; he was the most serious, responsible person I ever knew. I was blessed to have him as my dad.

As we approach the 250th birthday of our nation, we must also be thankful for the father of our country. Do You remember the celebration in 1976? I certainly do. I had just finished my freshman year in college, and the 4th of July was memorable because of the fun celebrations and the parades.
